Future Tense - Four Types

 

Future  tense is further divided into four types.

1.       Simple Future 

2.       Future  Continuous

3.       Future  Perfect

4.       Future  Perfect Continous

Usage of Simple Future Tense:

Simple Future - To denote an action in the future that is a fact

 

Example 1: I shall be twenty next Sunday.

Example 2: It will be Diwali in a week.

Simple Future - To denote an opinion, hope, uncertainty or assumption regarding the future

 

Example 3: I think India will win the tournament.

Example 4: Shyam believes he will get a hike in his salary.

Example 5: He will probably reject the plan.

Example 6: I expect the activist will continue his fight against the corrupt.

Simple Future - To denote a promise (or a confirmation)

 

Example 7: I will not consume alcohol.

Example 8: I will bring my family to the trip.

Simple Future - To denote a spontaneous (instant) decision

 

Example 9: Wait, I will help you.

Example 10: All right. I will wait for him.

Simple Future - Used in "if sentences" to express a conditional action

If + simple present    Simple future

 

Example 11: If it rains you will get wet.

Example 12: If we go late we will miss the train.

Usage of Future Continuous Tense:

Future Continuous - To denote actions which will be in progress at a time in the future.

 

Example 1: He will be travelling in the train tomorrow.

Example 2: I will be attending my friend’s wedding tomorrow morning.

Future Continuous - To denote an action that is sure to happen in the near future

 

Example 3: Monica will be staying here till Sunday.

Example 4: He will be meeting us next week.

Usage of Future Perfect Tense:

Future Perfect - To denote an action will be completed by a certain future time

 

Example 1: I shall have finished watching the film by then.

Example 2: He will have reached Bangalore before you.

Example 3: By next month, We will have worked here for ten years.

Usage of Future Perfect Continuous Tense:

Future Perfect Continuous - To denote actions which will be in progress over a period of time that will end in the future.

 

Example 1: By next winter, we shall have been working here for five years.

Example 2: I will have been teaching in this school for twenty years next year.

 

This tense is not used commonly.
